The Institutum Iurisprudentiae, Academia Sinica (IIAS) is honored to be hosting the 9th Asian Constitutional Law Forum. The Forum will be held on December 3-4, 2021 at the IIAS in Taipei, Taiwan. The general theme of the Forum is “Asian Constitutionalism in Troubled Times”, which covers the following sub-themes;

1. Human Rights Development in Asia
2. Emergency Power in Asia
3. Technology and Constitutional Development in Asia
4. Constitutional Change and Constitutional Stability in Asia
5. Constitutional Convergence in Asia
6. Hybrid Constitutionalism in Asia
7. Democratic Governance in the State of Emergency

Abstracts of papers related to constitutionalism in Asia which do not fall directly within the six sub-themes are still welcome.

Prospective participants may submit either an individual paper abstract or a panel proposal, the latter of which is particularly encouraged. A panel proposal is a proposal to form a panel in which three to four papers would be presented. A panel proposal should include a) a panel title, b) a short explanation of the theme of the panel, c) the titles and abstracts of the papers to be presented. A panel should have three to four speakers each presenting a paper, and one chair who would also serve as discussant.

The abstract should be no more than 250 words. Up to two paper abstracts may be submitted by each participant. The conference committee will consider the abstracts, and the authors of approved abstracts will be notified as scheduled.

*Deadline: Abstracts are to be submitted by July 20th, 2021.

*Notification of acceptance will be issued in mid-August.

*Participants at the Forum will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Conference registration fee can be waived for participants presenting papers at the Forum. Information about accommodation and transportation will be provided after notification of acceptance.

* Important note: Due to the international travel barrier caused by the pandemic, our scholarly community has not been able to meet in person for a prolonged period of time. It is hence the wish of conference committee that the 9th Forum offer an opportunity for in-person gathering of at least a substantial number of international participants. While we expect that the form of the Forum will be hybrid, including both in-person and virtual panels, the committee has decided that if, by late August or early September, the circumstances show that a substantial in-person gathering will not be feasible, we will decide whether to postpone the 9th Forum until May 2022 or later. The decision will be announced to all accepted participants in early September.
